'Tara' from LJ Electronics

There were many follow-on models to the Armdroid that either copied or were heavily influenced by its design and layout. There were also contemporaries - almost certainly rebadged Armdroids that allowed other companies to get in on the market without having to design their own arm.

One such company in the UK was LJ Electronics. This obviously rebadged Armdroid I (ex-eBay) may represent a desire to add a robot to their range of education equipment early and cheaply. Or it may have been a later attempt to mop up some of the market for lower-priced, simpler arms which their own much larger, more complex and more expensive Atlas arm couldn't access.
Tara (Armdroid I) from LJ Electronics
The 'Tara' name is typical of LJ Electronics products of that era. They seem to have had a liking for girls names for some reason as they also offered a simple 'Emma' processor board and a more advanced 'Tina' 6502 microcomputer.
History of Armdroid models from former Colne employee US models

This grab with highlighted text comes from an old page on the desktopcnc.com website. Through the words of an ex-Colne Robotics employee, it indicates how what started out as the Armdroid I in the UK, later became the D&M Armdroid 1000 in the US and when Labvolt took over D&M eventually morphed into the basis for their current range.
