The MA3000. Meet little brother's somewhat bigger brother.

This quote in an October 1985 electronics magazine heralded the arrival of a big brother for the MA2000:

"Anyone with £8,250 plus VAT might be interested in the latest arm from TecQuipment, the MA3000. It does not have the sophistication of its smaller companion, the MA2000, but is larger and more rugged and is intended for colleges which would normally be looking at the Puma to do a similar job. It has a reach of 750mm and can lift 2kg with an accuracy of 3mm. Powered by DC motors, with potentiometers, it has nine speeds, five axes plus a pneumatic gripper and is controlled by a BBC B."

It weighs a good deal more than the MA2000 and uses high-quality 110volt Bodine motors, heavily geared down to deliver its 2kg lift capacity. That puts it in the same class as Beeb heavyweights like the Atlas I/II and the Genesis range.

It shares the same control pendant as the MA2000 and its processor/PSU box uses the same front panel, but with a deeper, squarish rear casing.

I've found very few references to the MA3000 arm on the net, and most of those are at an Indian university (the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi). There is also a hint of something called an MA9000. That would be interesting to see, if it's an arm, but I suspect it's just the part number for the fully equipped workcell. MA9062 seems to be the part number for a horizontal traverse unit that allowed the MA2000 arm to range sideways for about 1 metre.
