Naiad's five cylinders came in all shapes and sizes

This Naiad is awaiting stripping and repair. Some of its see-through Perspex (plexiglass) cylinders look rather clogged up with residue - probably the result of a previous owner using 'hard' water, which leaves a potentially corrosive lime residue behind when it dries.

The picture also shows how each of Naiad's five axes is accompanied by some form of feedback potentiometer, providing a useful degree of positional accuracy, at least by 1980s standards. As is common with 8-bit arms of this period, the 6th 'axis' - gripper - provides no feedback.
