Serpent SCARA robot arm Serpent - a SCARA robot arm

The original Serpent arm was designed by Richard Becker in the mid 1980s after he left Powertran to set up his new company - Cybernetic Applications. (SCARA stands for Selectively Compliant Articulated Robot Arm.) The image on the left is of the latest version, now marketed by Feedback Instruments and incorporating many technical improvements and the latest PC interface.

Pictured next to it is the miniature 'teach arm' simulator for lead-by-the-nose learning and positioning.

Serpent is available in two models, giving a choice 552mm and 802mm arm reach, and correspondingly named Serpent 1 and Serpent 2.
